''Chat Control'' - What You Need to Know

Disclaimer; We hate scaremongering but in this post we report the facts of an impending situation.

We also provide some possible first steps everyone can take to try and mitigate what's coming.

📰 An article by Tuta, a German private encrypted mail service details the EU's so called ''Chat Control'' law being pushed by Denmark's current presidency of the EU council and it's future devastation of everyone's privacy and possible security.

The name ''Chat Control'' is only the EU's label for the UK and Australia's Online Safety Act, USA's Kid's Online Safety Act etc.

They are all the same thing and essentially means that every online communications provider will need to scan for ''unknown'' content using unreliable AI and not just for known illegal material.

This risks exposing your most intimate private conversations and photos.

If passed, Chat Control will decide whether your personal messages and private pictures are flagged or leaked undermining the privacy of 400 million Europeans.

Some countries have remained undecided or unclear of this law (as noted in the article) but the pressure may be too much to resist and they too may just jump on the bandwagon.

⏰ Timelines

👉 12th September - Governments will finalise their positions

👉 14th October - Final vote of the EU council

Again, please don't think that the EU doesn't affect the UK, your own government is planning the same approach after having recently suddenly introduced ID verification online an already gross abuse of your privacy.

Here's where collectives such as Reboot Privacy come in.

Let's make a few intelligent assumptions. If every messenger app and email provider needs to implement content scanning and reporting you will need to make a choice to either accept it and another thread of your privacy is gone forever or use alternative apps to communicate.

The issue with this is your old, big-tech hardware is already programmed to block ''unsafe apps'' whether you want to install it or not.

So it is very easy for governments, via big tech to prevent you installing workarounds.

Non big-tech devices like Linux on your computers or GrapheneOS on your smartphones and VPNs are the best tools in your arsenal at present to at least give you a fighting chance.

These devices will always do what you tell them to and never think they know better and refuse an action you request.

The time we have to act is very short and if the EU and UK governments are not opposed either by protest or opting-out of control based tech it will never be reverted. You, your family's, your future children and grandchildren will have nothing private left in their lives.

Feel free to share our website www.rebootprivacy.com and this Telegram group link if you feel others need to know what's happening behind their backs.

We exist to fight these intrusions and offer devices to opt-out and retain your digital privacy. If you are on the fence, do get in touch privately here or rebootprivacy@proton.me to discuss ways to get our tech a little cheaper and we'll do out best to accommodate.
